At Home – Jerman’s Story

As a young boy, Jerman Disasa was a poor kid who had walked 50 miles to reach the mission school where Rev. Jack Smith was teaching in rural Ethiopia.

Jerman eventually made his way to college in Kansas, then to the University of South Carolina. In Columbia, he worshipped at Eastminster Presbyterian Church and established the connection that continues today.

Abroad – Brenda’s story

Brenda Johnston left the Walt Disney Corporation and 28 years of marketing and management to begin working with children in Africa. Working with Brenda and Namibian Director, Mrs. Sylvia Beukes, His Promise Ministries is helping to feed and house children and build the Talitha Kumi Christian Academy for orphaned children.

International Child Care Program
With your help, orphans and vulnerable children are placed in the context of a family. Each family home is restricted to no more than 10 children in a family including the birth children. The families provide healthy role models for the children entrusted to Children of Promise Ministries Namibia. Child-headed households are the norm in Namibia and the need for long-term people resources is critical.

Talitha Kumi Christian Academy
We believe that education is one of the keys to breaking the cycle of poverty and taking control of one’s own life. Talitha Kumi is registered by the Namibian Ministry of Education to operate as a lower and upper Primary school which is grades 1-7.  There is also an after-school tutoring program in place to help children improve their skills and to provide children with time and assistance to complete their homework.
